　　乔纳森诺兰在伦敦出生并在芝加哥长大。 　　1994年毕业于美国伊利诺斯州，Wilmette市的Loyola Academy。99年毕业于乔治敦大学，主修英语。 　　大学毕业不久，乔纳森就担任电影《记忆碎片》的制片助理，与此同时，这部电影也就是基于他写过的短片小说《Memento Mori》改编而成的。在《记忆碎片》大获成功后，乔纳森诺兰继续担任哥哥克里斯托弗诺兰的合作编剧，两人合作完成《致命魔术》和《黑暗骑士》，以及现正热拍的《黑暗骑士崛起》。 　　另外，乔纳森也是《终结者2018》的编剧之一。 　　2011年担任美剧《疑犯追踪》的主创。 　　最近加盟皮尔斯伯格的新片Interstellar，担任编剧。 　　乔纳森也是《盗梦空间》、《黑暗骑士》、《蝙蝠侠：开战时刻》等由哥哥克里斯托弗诺兰指导的制片人之一，不少专业电影杂志将导演哥哥克里斯托弗诺兰、制片人嫂子艾玛托马斯、摄影指导沃利菲斯特和编剧兼制片人乔纳森自己称为诺兰家的的电影大权鼎立。
