贝内黛塔是个十六岁的女孩。一个略显怪异的“家庭”刚刚搬进她所在的小镇，即将闯入她的生活。这个“家庭”嘈杂而非同寻常——包括一位父亲和一位母亲、一个寻求庇护的新移民、一个带着小女儿的前妓女、一位年轻的囚犯、两个残疾者……而作为市长的女儿，贝内黛塔不得不适应一个她不喜欢的社会角色。然而，随着她与其中一位“家人”凯文坠入爱河，贝内黛塔将引领我们进入一个“边缘人”的世界。尽管每个人看起来都有着这样那样的“问题”，但实际上他们都只是普通人。与此同时，整个城镇的人们都在为即将举行的市政选举准备着。觥筹交错与嬉笑怒骂间，一切都在一个艰难的夜晚达到高潮。
