库洛是一个卖厨房机器人的售货员，外债缠身的他几乎身无分文。但是尽管没钱，库洛还是向他九岁的儿子小尼古拉斯做出了一个承诺：只要他在学校中拿到全A就带他去度过一个难忘的暑假。没想到儿子通过努力真的拿到了全A，库洛求助老师改成绩失败，无奈中只能与儿子踏上公路之旅：第一站回到了自己破败不堪的老家，面对奇奇怪怪的亲人；第二站到了有钱的亲戚家参加各种聚会，窘迫的老爸让人捧腹大笑，但却让小尼古拉斯在旅程中获得了友情，明白了快乐的意义，让他度过了一个最难忘的夏天。
