Bihn è un giovane vietnamita cresciuto in adozione che lascia il villaggio in cui vive per cercare la madre ad Ho-Chi-Minh City. Si tratta però solo di una tappa perchè l'intenzione è quella di trovare il padre, un soldato americano che non ha lasciato tracce. Ha così inizio un viaggio verso la 'beautiful country' rappresentata dagli Stati Uniti. Il soggetto potrebbe dar luogo a più di una riflessione ed è quindi ancor più spiacevole che il regista norvegese Hans Petter Moland lo anneghi in un oceano di retorica narrativa e visiva che ne vanifica le premesse.
